Brewzapalooza (not one but two-za) 2022

Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Brewzapalooza = Craft Beer Week in BHAM

Here's what that entails:

It’s Brewzapalooza time again! (We’ve actually moved it up a month this year.)

Brewzapalooza 2022 celebrates all things craft beer in Beermingham and, in particular, shines a spotlight on all the wonderful breweries that call BHAM home. We extended traditional Oktoberfest (Sept. 17 - Oct.3), by a week for folks in Birmingham, in order to showcase our city’s exciting craft beer scene.

The centerpiece of our event is the Beermingham Invitational Brewing Competition (formerly: Toast of Beermingham Invitational Brewing Competition). We changed the name for obvious reasons, but without all of the protracted Angies’ List is now Angi - like, hooplah – consider this your only notification.

Craft breweries in the greater Birmingham area that brew on premises (no kits) have a standing invitation to compete. Beermingham Brewers Collaborative’s competition committee also extends invitations to select regional breweries that our local brewers consider to be worthy competitors.

This year, we’re a Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) sanctioned event.

The categories for competition are:

Ambers/Browns

Barley/Wheat Ales

Belgian

Pale Ale

Pilsner/Lager

IPA

  • Hazy

  • Traditional

Sour

  • Wild Spontaneous

  • Berliner Weiss/Gose

Stout

  • Traditional

  • Pastry/Barrel Aged

Entries will be judged based on BJCP guidelines and will receive a 0-50 score. They will have the opportunity to receive a Gold/Silver/Bronze award based on score and the potential to receive best in category and best in show designations.

If the competition is the centerpiece, then what follows is the crown jewel.

Sunday Oct. 9, from noon to 8:00 PM, we’ll have our wrap party on the grounds of Hop City Birmingham. This event is: music festival meets award/closing ceremony (including food trucks, vendors-art/jewelry/clothing and much more).

The bands include Brotha Josh, Results of Adults, La Memoria, (with several announcements pending). Big fun will be had by all!

Tickets are available on our website. General Admission (GA) $10 and VIP $40.

GA gets you admission on Sunday. VIP will net you considerably more:

  • VIPre-party @ Moon Shine - 10.3

  • Cash Langdon @ Seasick Records - 10.4

  • VIP/Brewer reception @ Hop City - 10.8

  • Special access + @ wrap party - 10.9

[Check out our event calendar for these and other craft beer related activities happening in town!]

We’d certainly be remiss at this point if we did not thank all of our wonderful sponsors that make Brewzapalooza possible, so thank you to: Elyton Hotel, WorkPlay, Heather Leonard PC, First Avenue Ventures, Seasick Records, Birmingham Mountain Radio, Phoenix Promotional Products, Mouthfeel Draft Services and the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitor Bureau. (Plus a big thanks to Yellow Hammer Creative for designing our cool poster.)

Brewzapalooza is organized and produced by Beermingham Brewers Collaborative, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2021 to make the “case” for craft beer in the Magic City (AKA, Beermingham).

We believe that pairing BHAM’s burgeoning beer scene with the city’s amazing restaurants, hospitality industry, live music and cool sports teams represents the perfect way to market and promote Beermingham, USA (near and far) as your first round draft choice for a bona fide beer tourism destination. We hope to see you soon!
